This piece is a beautifully hand woven huipil of natural cotton in rich ivory complemented with deep black and soft grey hand embroidery. A contemporary interpretation of traditional motifs, this huipil is artistry in motion created by indigenous artisans using sustainable practices which support their community. Lightweight and a very comfortable fit. Artisan created in San Pedro Amuzgos, Oaxaca, Mexico.
Our dresses take time to create. Cotton must be gathered, natural dyes from flowers, roots and vegetables collected, yarn spun, weaving completed. All this happens around the rhythm of daily life in each of our artisan's communities. At Mimi Designs, our focus is on smaller-batch collections with zero-waste designs. This means slower production schedules than we may be used to. Each of our pieces is made using the traditional Mexican hand-weaving style which takes on average between four to six weeks per dress. This is the way and style it has been for generations: no machinery, just the weavers with their looms.
